2. The Research Approach
Prof. Lalioti, in collaboration with Mr.
Juergen Wind and Mr. Gernot
Goebbels from GMD, developed the methodology and supervised the implementation
of an approach that allows Virtual Environments to be used for training
and for producing Ndebele paintings (traditional african art made by Ndebele
women). Mrs. P. Siluma, a first year Computer Science student of Ndebele
origin provided the Ndebele patterns and requirements. The system
was developed by Mr. Pun and Mr. Mallan, third year Computer Science students,
and was carried out at University of Pretoria and at GMD. The implementation
was based on an extension of AVANGO developed by Mr. Wind.
